One extended voyage through Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an senior lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The ship left without her and returned several hours later after the crew discovered the passenger was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her body the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that guests and staff on the vessel were informed that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "surprised and grieved that the liner left the location after an planned excursion without my parent".

"Based on limited facts we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of care and basic judgment," she said.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the company should have undertaken that might have protected Mum's life".
